15No longer do I call you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father, I have made known unto you.

The most important friend in our life is God.  Are we a good friend to God?  Do we cultivate intimacy with God?  Do we spend meaningful quality time with God each day?  If not, it may be because we're a better friend to the world than we are to God.

We all want the creator of the universe to see us as a friend.  But we have to build our friendship with God.  We should share everything in our heart with God, the good, the bad and the ugly.  And have faith that he will treat us lovingly.  Spending meaningful time with God each day, quietly pouring out our heart to Him, is the most important part of each day.

Then of course, as we get to know His love for us more fully, we want to share that same love in all our earthly friendships.

ASV | Colossians 3:12 - 3:14

12Put on therefore, as God's elect, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, longsuffering;

13forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any man have a complaint against any; even as the Lord forgave you, so also do ye:

14and above all these things `put on' love, which is the bond of perfectness.

Being a good friend to those around you is one of the greatest blessings you can offer them.  When our friendship with God is solid, then He can use us as an anchor and support in the life of the people around us.

Celebrating your good friends and being a good friend is where we get the most benefit out of loving people.
